Groove: private network or internet?

Hi guys/gals I have been using groove for about 2 years now. I know you can
share files using both a private network and the internet what I don't know
is the default path that groove uses.

I am interested in this because my home internet is currently capped at 40gb
a month and essentially I do not want to use that to transfer files via
groove when at home. I would prefer to use the private network 'unlimited
bandwith' for that.

If anyone could enlighten me in relation to this issue I will be pleased.
