Groove will not activate

I have tried a number of times to activate using a license key. I have
available license slots, but everytime I try to activate while connection to
activate.groove.net I get a "cannot connect to server" error.

I have verified that I am actually connected to the web. Why does this keep
timing out?

Hi,

You can refer to this article for some help:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906895/en-us

This issue occurs if Groove cannot connect to the indicated activation
server. This issue may occur if one or more of the following conditions are
true:• An incorrect value is specified for the activation server on the
Activate Groove or Activate Product page.
• A problem exists on the activation server.
• A firewall or a proxy server does not allow the connection to the server.
Note that both network firewalls and personal firewalls, such as the
Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) Windows Firewall or McAfee Personal
Firewall Plus, can block these connections.
• A local Internet security program, such as Norton Internet Security,
blocks the content of the transmission or of the reply.
• A temporary problem exists at some location of the Internet between your
location and the activation server.
• A problem exists on the local network.

Hi,

I am having the same problem here. Can not acivate the product. The
workspace i would like to restore, .grv file says its outdated retreving it
via my email ans password wont work eighter and reactivating is a no go. So
no collaboration what so ever for me at the moment. Bit of a pain. Have tried
the suggestions in the kb article and the response looks o.k, set up a ping
to the address but 100% loss so they probably block that. Anyone a suggestion
how to proceed. I am not very happy that my saved workspace file is outdatet
now, whats the use of a restore file that wont restore?

Mason,

Thanks for the link and the help. I wish I could say it resolved the issue,
but it didnt. This license is correctly trying to connect to
activate.groove.net. The browser on the machine I am attempting to install
and activate Groove on is able to hit http://activate.groove.net and the
browser returns the expected results. Browser cache and cookies have been
deleted as the knowledgebase suggests, but still I cannot reach the Groove
activation server through Groove to activate my license.

The machine in question is running WIndows XP SP1...not sure if that might
be coming into play here. Would seem like the fact that it is running SP1
would make a more favorable activation environment for Groove, because there
is not Personal Firewall.

Any other suggestions?

Hi,

If you can not activate your Groove license with activation.groove.net, then
input gms.groove.net as activation server name.
