Group ROWS together????

P

Patrick

I need to group several rows together for sorting purposes. For example....

Name Credit Debit Balanc
Doe, John 45 $ 4
55 10
10 9

Doe, Jane 35 $3
25 6

Now, in my example, I need to sort via their name, but at the same time I need to keep the ROWS of John Doe together with 'John Doe' and I need to keep the ROWS of Jane Doe togethether with 'Jane Doe'. IS THIS POSSIBLE IN EXCEL 2003???? Somebody PLEASE HELP!

I don't use Excel 2003 yet but the new "Lists" feature may be more robust than
previous versions when keeping data together.

In earlier versions you cannot group rows in this manner.

Why don't you fill in the blanks in the Name column so you have a name for
each row.

First......Make a copy of your worksheet or backup your workbook.

Select Name Column.

Edit>Go To>Special>Blanks>OK

Now with the blanks selected enter = in activecell(just below Doe, John) then
click on the name above and hit CRTL + ENTER.

Doe, John will be replicated. Doe, Jane will be replicated and etc, etc.

Select Names column and Copy then Paste Special(in place)>Vlaues>OK>Esc.

When you sort, make sure you select all columns and sort on Names column.

Hi Patrick
Select all your Data Columns and goto Data--Sort.
Select Name in Sort by and make sure Header row is
checked. Select Ascending or Descending click Ok.
