Grouping images for Accessibility

I have PowerPoint slides which need to be read by a screen reader, JAWS, for
accessibility requirements. I have to group multiple images into one, and
provide web/alternate text. That works fine. To test this, I've been
advised to Tab through the images on the slide. What I find is that although
grouped, the individual images are still there. First I stop in the title,
then the grouped image. Next Tab takes me through the individual components.
I am expecting that they will be gone. Is that a feature or a bug? Is that
a setting to turn off? Any help appreciated. Thanks, Judy

Maybe I should have left JAWS out of it. JAWS does stop on the grouped
image, then the individual components.

Whether or not JAWS is on or off... I (perhaps erroneously) expect that
since I grouped my images, the individual components are not available
individually until I would chose to un-group.

Say I've grouped a screen shot image, a box I've put around something
important in that screen shot, and an arrow. Three components. If I would
tab through the slide, the title is hit first, then the grouped image, then
the screen shot, the box, and the arrow. Shouldn't the individual parts be
'gone', since they're grouped?

Maybe my expectations are wrong. i've got ppt 2002 with SP 3.

hi Steve, thanks for pursuing this.

I had posted the same question to an Accessibility Forum within my company.
I found a lady who it 'worked' for, and she was using PPT 2000. I've tried
both XP and 2003, with the same, undesired results. So your confirmation of
the behaviour between releases was exactly what I needed to know to identify
the problem.

I've previosly tried saving the grouped image (PNG) and importing it to a
new slide. There is a slight loss of clarity, but not as great as with
saving as some other object types. It might be our only workaround.

Unfortunately, on our server to download Office, 2000 is no longer
available. :-(
