Grouping Summary and Progress Bars on Gantt Charts - MS Project Prof. 2002

I'm using MS Project Professional 2002. I have set up outline codes
for tasks, with summary tasks. I would like to do a filter on
'summary tasks' to hide the tasks, and then show a progress bar down
the center of the 'group by summary' on the gantt chart. By changing
the regular looking progress bar to that of a task bar - I could
convey lots of information without the detail. (My customer doesn't
like the dependency lines anyway)

For the progress line, I set the options to: Group by Summary and
actual start --- Complete Through

Nothing happens, is there some way to do this? I've tried the
progress bar before and after the main summary bar to no avail.

Have you looked into the Rollup feature?

You're referring to both Progress lines and Progress bars. They are two
different things. A Progress Line is a line that runs down through the
entire Gantt Chart. A Progress Bar is a bar and/or shape that is displayed
on each task's gantt line.

You refer to "a progress bar down the center of the 'group by summary' on
the gantt chart", and I'm not sure if you're referring to, displaying a
progress bar within each task, as a vertical shape (thus 'down the center'),
or displaying one Progress Line down the entire gantt chart.

FYI: You can hide the dependency lines on tasks: [Format][Layout] select the
first item in the [Links] section and click [OK]
