Guest Book troubles

Tom

I'm using FrontPage 2002. I have attempted to install
the guest book form that comes with MS Frontpage to my
web site. It unfortunately doesn't work yet. The guest
book form collects the information but does not either
forward it to the 'Guestlog.htm' page that FrontPage
created to receive it or has failed to link the two or is
just failing to attach and then display the Guestlog
page? I have no idea what's wrong. The instructions
seemed so easy. Just put the guest book form on a page
and Frontpage would do the rest. Obviously, I'm not
seeing something or perhaps I should have set some
conditions or parameters in some properties box etc.,
thereby linking the two. Server extensions are up and
running by my provider; and they can't figure what's
wrong either.

Thank you for considering my problem!

Does the host/remote website have FP server extensions installed? If so,
did you use the HTTP publish method or FTP?

Please post a public URL to your website and the page in question.

Thank you for responding. The website is
www.dayofdreams.com . Within the website, you would
click on the "Guest Book" link to reach the page. The
web host is Valueweb.com and they have extensions active
and running.

2 Problems
- first & foremost remove all spaces from all file names

Then in FP move the guestlog.htm file into a folder w/ write permissions (by default the _private folder) and check your guest book
page form properties and include page properties to make sure they point to the new location

I see your guest posts at
http://www.dayofdreams.com/guestbook.htm
coming from
<!--webbot bot="Include" tag="BODY" u-include="_private/guestlog.htm"
- and your spaces are still in your file names

I tried to enter in the guest book in 'dayofdreams.com'. But it did not work.

I am using internet explorer 6.

I have very similar problem in my website "kentheteaman.com" with my guest
book. It does not work. I get error page telling me to install the FP
extension. It is already installed in the server.

I used WS FTP to transfer my files. Perhaps I should use FP instead.

regards,
ken.

I see no guest book on that page.

Yes, you must use http publish, not FTP in order for the web components to
work.

Using ftp corrupts the extensions. You must now contact your host to repair
or reinstall them.

Hi Ken,

Well i finally got it to work and this is what i did.

1. Delete you gest book page the guest log then save the web site.
2. Recreate it using the wizard this will creat a new guest log file where
your data will be stored.
3. Move that file into the _privite directory
4. Go to view code and cgange the path for this file in the "bot" section
where indicated.
5. republish you Web site and it should work!!

Happy New Year

Dick
