Hammock Task

I have created a hammock task; it works ok when I leave the duration as an
estimate (ie. a "?" is included in the duration). Is there something I can do
to have this work without the duration being considered an estimate?

Thanks!

Dale,
For your reference, all durations in Project are estimates up until the
time the task is completed - then duration is history. Whether or not
the "?" appears in the Duration field should be independent of whether a
hammock task works properly. Perhaps all you need to do is to change the
option that shows the "?". That option can be turned on or off under,
Tools/Options/Schedule tab.

By the way, are you sure that calculation (Tools/Options/Calculation) is
set for automatic? If it is not, the hammock task may not appear to
update.

Sometime MS drives me crazy in their naming conventions. As John says, all
durations are estimates until the work is actually done. The "estimated"
question mark really is simply a reminder flag that you haven't taken a look
at the duration field critically and you should evaluate it before
considering the schedule final. It's only there as a convenience and has no
impact at all on the scheduling.
