Well it is going to be difficult remotely diagnosing this, but try several
suggestions below including running Word in default install mode and see if
that stabilises it. It is usually a third party add-in that causes these
sort of problems.
1. Check that the latest graphics driver is installed by checking on the
Internet support site and downloading any newer driver.
2. Check to see if there is a newer printer driver: delete and reinstall the
printer anyway as a corrupt printer driver is a common problem.
3. Clear out all abandoned temp files (and there are probably hundreds of
them). Start the computer and don't open any applications: navigate to
Documents and Settings>Username>Local Settings>Temp and delete all files
that you find (the temp directory is as its name suggests, is only a
temporary holding ground and it should be empty when all applications are
closed).
3. Start Word using the a switch by using Start, Run and typing in
winword /a
and pressing enter. This will start Word in its pristine install state.
Operate it like that and see if that stabilises Word.
