have OEM office XP w/disks: cannot find proret.msi for SP3 update

I am using automated updates and trying to install Office XP SP3. I have the
OEM office XP disks that came with my Gateway Media Center Desktop computer:
I cannot find proret.msi file update being requested by the installer for
SP3.

I realize the 'RET' in proret.msi means retail, but if the service pack is
for all users, it would seem that the installer should not be asking for this
file unless SP3 is only for retail versions of the product.. I also have
another XP Pro set of disks and connot find it on them. Any ideas?

It should be on your Office XP CD.

You may be able to install via the full install download from the below site
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FD-6F69-4289-8BD1-EB966BCDFB5E&displaylang=en
OfficeXpSp3-kb832671-fullfile-enu.exe 57.5 meg.
Download the file and see if it will install without asking for the CD.

You are being prompted for the PRORET.MSI file because your registry indicates a specific Office XP
installation.
Possibility - at some time you updated or repaired Office XP with another version of Office XP.
For example you have may had Office SBE installed and later installed/repaired/upgraded/added an
application such as Access 2002 with an Office XP Pro CD.
If downloading the full file hasn't rectified the problem, the only option is to uninstall Office XP
and reinstall all applications from the one CD.

Thanks for the help. The full download did work. The update still requested
the office XP disks, but not the proret.msi file.

It is a mystery as to why I cannot find the find the proret.msi file on my
Office XP disks. I used Windows Explorer to to search the CDs, but the only
two other .msi files came up.

Thanks again

Hi,

I have the same problem but the full download didn't solve it. In fact the
install process stops and a pop-up window says: This update has already been
applied or is included in an update that has already been applied.

Kind regards.
