Have to hit Send/Receive to receive messages

Unless I hit the Send/Receive button, messages do not appear in the Inbox. If I do a test of my email account from Tools/Options/email account it says it successfully sent test mail, but even the test mail doesn't appear unless I hit the button

In Outlook 2002 I have to set the time limit for Send Receive even while
working in online mode.

Try Tools > Options > Mail Setup Tab
Click on Send/Receive
In the section called Setting For Group "GroupNameHere" there is a check box
that allows you to set how often Outlook Client waits to send and receive
mail.

Does this happen in all views of the folder or just one?

I have already changed the time in the "Schedule automatic send/receive"

box from the default of 5 minutes to 1 minute. It didn't help. Incoming
mail never appears without hitting the button, not even after eight hours.

Hmm. I don't understand the question. The only folder I try to look at for mail is the Inbox folder. ???

Checking for new mail every minute is unrealistic. Change the setting to
check every 10 minutes and see if that works.

Did you see the solution regarding your "work offline" being checked under
the file pulldown? this worked for several others.
