Having problems with publisher 2000 using office 2003 XP Home - ?

GKB

Have just updated my home PC to XP Home and installed Publisher 2000 but its
not working. Is this because I have Office 2003 and must buy an updated
version of publisher. Any help would be appreciated.

Accounts getting a little behind!

Cheers

"Not working" can mean a lot of different things. Remember, we can't see
what's happening there, so you have to be our eyes. So please describe
exactly what's happening. Does Publisher start and then crash, can you open
Publisher but not open any existing publisher files, are you getting error
messages, something else?

Thanks for getting back so quick. Im writing as third party, but I gather
that files from publisher 2000 are not opening on the new PC.

Hi again, please ignore my last although its part of the problem! The
warning we seem to be getting is @publisher cannot open files for a different
vesion'. Would this mean we have to purchase an upgrade for publisher 2000
or do you know if there are updates we can down load.

Can you please clarify which version of Publisher is on each machine? In
your previous posts, it sounds as if you'd installed Publisher 2000 on both
machines.

I believe you should be able to open Publisher 2000 files on either system,
and I don't think Office 2003 should cause this error. (Hopefully a
Publisher MVP will pop in and confirm.)

You might try running Detect and Repair on Publisher 2000.

Also see this about disabling Norton AV's script blocking:

I just saw this thread. You have Pub 2000 on two systems and one can't open
files the other created, is that right?

Try following Echo's excellent advice about Norton. (This is one reason why
I now use AVG.)

Have you disabled your anti-virus and then tried opening the files?

Right-click any 2000 Publisher file, properties, opens with, be sure the files
are associated with Publisher 2003.

What happens when you double-click a 2000 file?
