Having problems with styles in Word 2007.

I'm having some trouble with styles in Word 2007. I can't get my created
styles to stay in the "Styles" tab. I know there's a way to create styles and
have them appear in the "Quick Styles" tab when I open Word because I've done
it before, but every time I create a new style, add it to my "Quick styles"
and exit, whenever I restart, the created styles are no longer in the
"Styles" box.

I have tried creating styles by formatting my paragraph, right clicking and
selecting styles from the menu, and modifying the style. I've also tried
using the "New Style" from dialog box. They styles are created temporarily,
but when I restart, they're gone and I have to go through the task of
recreating them, if I don't open a document with a similar style already
applied to it.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

When you create the style are you also using the option "New documents based
on this template"? This option can be found in the New Style dialog box or
Modify Style dialog box.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I check that option, but it always reverts back
to the option to use that style only for the current document no matter how
many times I go back in and change it.

When you create a new document the styles are copied from the template.
There's a connection between the document and template but if you modify a
style it will not automatically be modified in the template unless you
explicitly tell Word to make the modification using the "New documents based
on this template" option. Once modified or added, the option won't stay set
to "New documents based on this template".

So if you created you style, made sure the "Add to Quick Style gallery"
option was selected and use the "New documents based on this template"
option, are you saying you don't see the style in the Styles gallery when
you create a new document?

If that's the case, then do you have the Adobe PDF Maker add-in installed
for Word? This add-in is known for discarding your customizations when you
exit Word.

Thank you, very much. That was the problem. I'd recently built a new
computer, and I reinstalled Office and Adobe Creative Suite. Once I disabled
the add-in and made my styles, my styles stayed in the gallery. Thanks again.
