Having trouble with Outlook over a VPN connection

Using Win 2k (patched and sps applied) with Office XP Pro
(and all service packs). Computer is connecting to main
office over a VPN client software (Netscreen Remote v. 7).
Using hosts and lmhosts files...they have a confirmed
connection as I can see it in the firewall logs at the
main office. They can ping the Exchange Server (Exchange
5.5 all SPs) both by name AND by IP address as well as the
other servers they access.

Something is hanging Outlook up when they try to open it
and I get a box telling me it is requesting info from the
Exchange Server (and I get it 3-4 times before Outlook
will even come up!)What's odd is that their access to one
of the networked drives is sporadic at best. Sometimes
they can hit it, other times they can't.

Any ideas where to start with this one? I've even run
the "Detect and Repair" feature to try and fix it.
