Header and Footer disappearing

I have a problem with a Word document. I have a 2 page
document. First page has a Header (logo and some text).
second page has a Footer (logo and text). The rest of the
document contains text and pictures. I have created a
template for the users with the Headers and footers in
place.

My problem is this: Somehow, one user has put a section
break about mid way down on the first page. Since I
always have invisibles and text box outltnes showing, it
was easy for me to spot the section break. BUT..... when
I try to delete the section break, the Header and Footer
disapear. I have seen this before and assumded it would
pop back after I closed the document. But they do not
come back.

I am familiar with Word and with section, column and page
break commands. But I can not seem to to get rid of this
section break without deleting the Header and Footer.
There is text (several paragraphs) above and below the
section break. Why would a section break that is half way
down the page be linked somehow to the Header and
Footer.?????? Grrrrrr

I have fixed the problem by copying the Header and footer
to another document then paste them back after I delete
the section break. But I am at a loss as to what to tell
the user who created the problem. I can not seem to
duplicate this.
I am aware that word is NOT a page layout program, But
how can this section break have anything to do with the
header or footer?

I would like to give the user an answer as to why this is
happening. Can you give me one?

I have the document and will be glad to send it to ya.
I am assuming that the user was attempting to change the
paragraphs to 2 columns or from 2 back to 1. That part of
the document sometimes has 1 or 2 columns. I have done
this many times and never had the header and footer
disappear.

Help ;-( sniffle
Thank you for your time
