Header and Footer toolbar

The Autotext button on the header & footer toolbar is disabled.... I tried to reset the toolbar, but it does not fix the problem. Has anyone heard or seen this problem before? I've never know this to happen.

The button only works if there are autotext entries pre-defined in the
paragraph style at the cursor, by default 'Header'. Change the paragraph
style to (say) normal and see the difference.

The usual reason for this is that (a) "Look in" in the AutoText dialog is
set to something other than "All active templates" or (b) you have
overwritten Normal.dot with a document or template that does not contain the
AutoText entries (see “WD2002: Styles and AutoText Are Not Copied to New
Template Based on Normal.dot†at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=291441).
