I have Office 2003.

I am trying to access the header and footer feature in Word but when I choose
View\header and footer\insert auto text\filename and path i get this error
message

filename\p but it does not give me the actual name and path of the file. Can
you help me?

Thanks for your help

{ FILENAME \p } is not an error message; it is a field code. Press Alt+F9 to
toggle the display from field codes to field results.

when do you toggle the Alt F9 key? I tried doing it when created the header
but did not work.

You toggle the FieldCodes (F9) when the cursor is in the field or the field
is selected. But try Tools, Options, View tab and clear the FieldCodes check
box.

You are absoultely right Alt F9 does toggle the field code but it still does
not change the code in the header or footer. I logged on to that same
machine as a different profile and it worked perfectly. When I toggled the F9
key to changed the values to code or text but when I am logged on as the
person with the problem it does not work.

Because different users have different normal.dots and registry settings to
store their preferences. As stated, go to Tools, Options, View and clear the
checkbox for Fieldcodes. That will affect all fieldcodes whether entered
into the H&F or body of the text.

I went and view the field code box to see if it had a check mark and it did
not. Toggling it with or without the check I still get the same result. Is
there a registry setting that I can toggle in order to get the Alt F9
function to work properly?

I cannot think what is wrong here except maybe a corruption in the document
or template. Have you tried this in a different document?
