Headers and Footers in Project Server Views

E

Emily

Our project server has a number of customized views that are available to the
users that we would like the users to use for their project plans.

We have noticed, however that the users cannot customize the headers and
footers in these pre-defined views. They can change them, but their changes
are not saved when they publish the plan back on the server. The only way
they can save Headers and Footers is with custom views within their own plans.

We are presently using Project Server 2002.

Is there a way that they can customize the Headers and Footers of the
pre-defined views on a project by project basis or must they always create
custom views?

Thanks,

Emily

You should be able to make the custom Headers and Footers available in your
custom enterprise Views by doing the following:

1. Launch Microsoft Project Professional and log into Project Server with
administrator permissions
2. Open any project
3. Apply any one of your custom enterprise Views
4. Click View - Headers and Footers
5. Set up the header and/or footer the way you wish to use it with the
custom View
6. Click OK
7. Repeat steps #3-6 to customize the Headers and Footers for EVERY custom
enterprise View
8. Click Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise Global
9. Click Tools - Organizer
10. In the lower left corner of the dialog, select the enteprise project
you currently have open from the pick list
11. Make sure the lower right corner of the dialog shows the Enterprise
Global selected
12. Copy your custom enterprise Views from the left side (the project) to
the right side (the Enterprise Global)
13. Click Yes when prompted about replacing any existing View
14. Click Close
15. Save and close the Enterprise Global
16. Close the enterprise project currently open but DO NOT save the changes
17. Exit and relaunch Microsoft Project and log into Project Server again
(to refresh the Views in the Enterprise Global)
18. Open any enterprise project and apply any one of the Views you just
customized

When you click File - Print Preview, you should now see the new Header and
Footer information. PLEASE NOTE: The above process is how you create or
customize enterprise Views so that you do not pollute the Enterprise Global
file with non-enterprise Views. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,

Thanks for the answer, but I think I worded the question incorrectly

I would like to know if a PM can open up their project and customize the
header for their project only in one of the standard views or do they have to
create their own view to be able to create thier own personalized headers and
footers?

Thanks,

Emily

If they customize the headers and footers for a non-enterprise View, such as
the Gantt Chart view, they should use Tools - Organizer to copy the
customized View from the project to their Global.mpt file. Hope this helps.
