I am presently working on a book template with master(toc, preface, contents) and subdocument(chapters) concept

But people say using word's default Master/Subdocument has to be used with extra care. But i can't ask our authors to stricly follow those rules

So i tried for some other wa

When i manually copy and paste or insert a chapter in to my master document, the headers of the chapters are getting changed
chapter has even:"book title" and odd:"chapter title" as headers

How can i retain/preserve the individual chapter's headers as it is when i copy and paste at the master file

Also please suggest me the best way of working with these kind of multiple files.

headers and footers are section-specific. So you'd need to insert a section
break... generally at the top of the chapter file. And then set the headers and
footers to unlink from the previous section.

And you'd want two section breaks in the "master file", one before and one
following where you're going to insert the chapter. And here, again, the "Same as
previous" should be turned off for the headers and footers.

But you don't need section breaks if you're using a StyleRef field to pick
up the chapter title.
