heading4

My Word 2003 document has chapters assigned as heading2 (i.e. 2.0, 3.0, 4.0).
Each chapter has topics assigned as heading3 (i.e. 3.1, 3.2, 3.3)
These topics may have subsections assigned as heading4 (i.e. 3.3.1, 3.3.2,
3.3.3)
However, heading4 does not resequence the numbers and they all appear as
3.3.1, 3.3.1, 3.3.1

Any ideas?

Most likely the numbering for Level 4 has been typed in as text rather than
inserting as numbering. In the Bullets and Numbering dialog, if the number
does not show a grey background, then it is plain text and not a field. See

instructions on setting up foolproof outline numbering.

Suzanne, the reference to the Microsoft document was excellent and I followed
it several times; however, the problem still exists. Would you be willing to
look at a sample of my word document to see if you can determine what I'm
doing wrong?
