Help! Cannot unlock my project!

R

Robert

Hello everyone,

a long time ago, I created my own .dot file in Word 97 containing some
macros. I locked that project using the "protection" tab in the project
settings.

Now I would like to unlock the project again, to edit something. How can I
do that? I have the .dot file open, but whatever I try to do with the VBA
project, I get a "project is unviewable" message. I've found no form where I
could enter my password to make the project accessible again.

Please help!

Hi Robert

From the VBA IDE (press Atl+F11 from within Word). Now within the VBA IDE:
Tools>"Project" Properties>Protection and you can enter your password there.

If you can remeber your password you've got a problem! No password, no access
- full stop. If that's the case the all you can do is recreate the code or
try a password cracker. For the later search Google for "Word Password
Cracker".

Well, I don't even get that far! When I select "Project properties" with the
project I want to unlock selected, I already get the error message.

Sounds like you have it located in the Word Startup folder. If you move it
from there to the Templates folder, you will be able to open the template
using File>Open and then it will be available in the VBE.

Good answer. Thanks. Wasn't even locked, in fact.
Does that mean that whenever I want to edit my dot, I have to move it out of
the startup folder first?
