HELP! Changing a template- very lost

R

Rebecca

I have opened up a Customer Service Database and made my entries but I have
not been able to change the template, I would like to add 2 new fields but
when I look up help it tells me to do things that arn't on my screen. I am
guessing it's because it's a template not one Iv'e started from scratch. I am
getting a headache- doe's anyone know how to do this? I am using Access 2007.
Thanks

Open the table(s) in design view where you want to add the two new fields
and add the fileds.

I would if I knew how. The instructions on Microsoft help seem to be
different to what's in front of me.

Open your database and you should see the shutter bar on the left side. If
you don't see any list, click the double right arrows at the top right of
the shutter bar. When you see a list, if it isn't a list of your tables,
click the down arrow and click tables in the dialog that appears.

To get to design view, right click on the table you want to add fields to.
Another dialog appears. Click Design View. This is where you add fields.

I can get into design view, I know all that it's adding the field that I can
figure out.

What is it that you can't figure out? Be specific! In design view you have
the list of fields in the table. To add another field you just need to type
in the field name at the bottom of the list and det its data type.

I am in design view and want to add another field. There is no where to type
anything in the field list

Design view is where you add fields! If the list appears full, either ....
1. scroll down and add your field at the bottom of the list
2. place the cursor on one of the fields and press Insert = Row

I know you must think I'm stupid or something but is seriously no place to
write anything. The help I've researched online tells me to push buttons that
I don't have.

Rebecca, I think perhaps you are trying to modify the template itself,
rather than the database that you generated from the template. Am I correct?
That could certainly explain why you are not seeing what the various
responders here were talking about.

The approach for using templates is to go through the steps and generate a
database application from the template. Then, open the generated database
application and make changes in design view to customize the application to
your specific needs.

There are some differences in using templates between earlier versions of
Access and the current Access 2007. What version of Access are you using?
