Help changing graphic in template

G

Greg Fort

I am stuck on what should be a very simple procedure. I purchased a
FrontPage template and am attempting to make graphic changes. The template
uses include files. The directions sounded simple enough, open in a graphics
program, make changes and save as. I have access to Photoshop, but the
program is a thick as AutoCad. What I want to do is change the "Company
name" graphic to my own. The template came with coname.htm in the includes
file, which I think is from the companyname.gif included in the images
folder. The template also came with a file named infoname.png which I
believe is to be used to edit in Photoshop. The template cell is 760 pixels
wide. The graphic is 322 wide. I want to make the new graphic wider to
accommodate a longer name. Could someone please give me a step by step
detail on how to change this graphic using Photoshop 7? Thanks in advance
for your help.

Based on what you have described, just create a image with your company name, then save as
companyname.gif, then import into your web overwritting the current one, then open the include page
delete the current image and then re-insert your new image.

Step by step in Photoshop? It takes months using Photoshop to become an intermediate! :)

IMO what you should do is begin working on your web using the template with the existing coname.gif. Personally, I don't work with pngs, although they are 'supposed' to be the next universal format...I've had problems with them.

Maybe the person whose Photoshop you're using can get you started.

Basically your gonna make a copy of the graphic file that was included in the template and work with it outside of FP. First thing you do is save it as a .psd (native photoshop file) and then experiment with that. If your only choices are between the png and gif, I'd choose to use the png and convert that to psd.

Then take two asprin and call me in the morning

Whats the URL for the site?

Thanks Thomas,
Sounds easy from your end. I'll keep trying and eventually get it.

Templates are good timesavers, but you still gotsa know some stuff.

If you have the site up, post the url with the image you want to change, lemme take a look at it. If your not under a time crunch maybe I can help.

Photoshop is overkill - if you're under the gun time-wise forget it.

When I first started designing webs, back in 1894 or so, I got so sidetracked learning Photoshop that it took 6 months to get the web done ;-) - but now I'm hooked on PS.

| I took a handfull of asprins, still having problems. I thought buying a
| template and making subtile changes solved most design problems. But since
| emailing the template company and receiving a "add this code in the css to
| something" I guess simple changes are for selling templates only.

I downloaded a 60 day evaluation copy of Paint Shop Pro. Looks a little
easier to use for what I have to do right now. I think I could pick up on PS
with more time. I understand layers and such. I had a lot of AutoCAD a few
years back in college. Anyway, the template support emailed me back and said
just create a new image, size it to fit in the cell and rename it to replace
the old. Hope to get at that this weekend. Made some headway today on other
parts of the site, but having problems with some others. I'll post the new
questions. BTW I haven't published the site yet. I want to have spider food
before I do.
