Help! Closing error msg: DDE Server Apln Err -memory could not be

G

GerryP777

Only since the past few days I've had this problem. It occurs *almost* every
time I close Outlook (2002) though not always -it seems not to happen if I
just dash in and out. When closing Outlook 2002 normally, I get an error
message ...

DDE Server Window: OUTLOOK.EXE - Application Error
The instruction at "0x00000000" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The
memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program

What's going on ? How can I stop it faulting ? Thanks for any help,
Gerry )

Do you have any applications integrating with Outlook? Check for COMs and Add
Ins. Disable them all. Close Outlook, reopen it, and add them in one at a
time to see if any cause the problem.

I've also heard of this error being caused if you have Quicktime installed.
Try uninstalling it to see what happens.

Hello All:

I am getting the same indications with Outlook 2003 and (I presume) the
latest QuickTime "pirateware." (opinion)

ADDITIONAL DATA
This happened once and for the last several days every time I close Outlook,
I get the option to send in a full memory dump as part of the Error Report.

Sadly, since my digital signatures are cached somewhere in there, there's no
way I'm going to compromise it by sending it into "the wild" although I'm
sure MS will take measures to keep it protected.

Will try the QuickTime fix and report back soon.

Hello All:

Surprise, surprise <best Gomer Pyle accent>. Uninstalling QuickTime actually
seems to have fixed the problem.

Very cool fix, though it puts the onus on Apple to figure out what they did
to mess things up. Let's hope it doesn't turn into a "No, it's your fault,"
situation where NOTHING gets fixed.

---------------------------------------
Found this in my research and it *might* also apply, but I did not need to
use it.

Per MSKB 892580:
Internet Explorer or another program that uses DDE stops responding on a
Microsoft Windows 2000-based or Microsoft Windows XP-based computer

File(s) affected:
Windows XP Service Pack 2 x86
Date Time Version Size File name
--------------------------------------------------------------
02-Feb-2005 20:20 5.1.2600.2597 577,024 User32.dll
--------------------------------------------------------------

The associated HotFix file is, apparently, fixed for WinXP SP-3!

WinXP Hotfix file:
Product Language Platform Release File name
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
WinXP English x86 sp3 Fix153043
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Supposedly fixed in SP-3.
