Help! Entourage not sending emails.

Hi

I have Entourage and Gmail linked together. All my gmails come into Entourage and I've been using Entourage for my emailing for years without problem.

Now it won't let me send any. I've reset it from Google again but no joy. The error message I get is: The server can't be found. Be sure the mail server information is entered correctly in the Account Manager, and that your DNS settings in the Network Control Panel are correct.

The information is the same as it always was. The only thing I can find in my DNS settings is a DNS server coupled with a search domain for my old lodger who left over a year ago. It's greyed out and I can't even get at it.

Does any kind soul have a solution to my problem or shall I just throw it out the window and get a new one?

Many many thanks
Weetbix.

This could be a temporary problem with your DNS server. You coudl use
OpenDNS instead to see if it corrects the issue,

Hi

Thanks for your response and help. What is opendns and why should it carry on for two weeks then get worse? You're talking to someone with limited knowledge, I can reload all my old settings but I've never heard of OPenDNS.

thank you

Hi

OpenDNS is a third party DNS server. Free access and pretty good
recognition internet-wide.
Take a look at their website:

As I was saying, I suspect that the DNS provided through your interent
access has issues. I've had te same problem myself and that's what
pushed me to use the ones from OpenDNS. They are fast, and well
maintained. It's a fairly good alternative to faulty DNS servers.

The idea is to simply use the IP of the two OpenDNS DNS servers to your
network settings, Take a look on their page. They even provide all the
instructions there for Mac users as well.

Hi Corentin

Thanks for that, I've done it and it was easy. But it's still not working. I can still see another number in DNS box that's greyed out and I can't delete, for my old lodger. I can see the new numbers are active but the name Ian is still there too. So it's not sending anything!

Any other ideas?

thank you

The other ones are provided through DHCP (you are probably connecting to
the network/internet access through DHCP).

No idea why you cant bypass them :-\

Can you use the SMTP server of your DNS instead of the gMail one??
