Fellow forum members:
I'm totally confused why all my Excel hyperlinks don't work and displa
the messages below everytime I select one:

"Some files can contain viruses and otherwise be harmful to you
computer. It is important that the file comes from a trustworth
source. Would you like to open the file?"

"No program is registered to open this File"

The first message is just annoying and I just press OK to make it g
away. But the second message is serious and is preventing the hyperlin
from working. What does Excel mean by telling me, "No program i
registered to open this File"?. My research in this forum hints tha
this problem might be caused due to Microsoft Internet Explorer, but i
doesn't tell me how to fix it. Can anyone out there help me figure ou
how to make my hyperlinks work? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Something I need to add. All my hyperlinks are to AVI files. The Fil
Type association I have setup for AVI files is to use a program calle
VideoLAN (it's a video player that offers much more than MS Medi
Player).

When Excel points out that "No program is registered to open this File
is it referring to VideoLAN? How I do I make Excel acknowledge th
existance of VideoLAN? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank

If you double-click on an AVI file in Explorer does VideoLan open that
file? If not, you need to associate AVI files with the VideoLan program.

Bill,
Thanks for your response. To answer your question, Yes when I doubl
click directly on the AVI source file VideoLAN automatically launche
and plays the AVI file. This is what I find so bewildering. The fil
association is correctly setup in the File Types TAB in the Folde
Option Menu. All AVI and MPG files that were once associated wit
Windows Media Player are now associated with VideoLAN (a media playe
that in my opinion is a lot better than Windows Media Player). Al
video files play nicely on VideoLAN as long as I double click on th
source file directly. But if I click on the hyperlink setup in Excel,
get the message:

"No program is registered to open this File"

What is up with Microsoft making something so easy to work, ver
difficult?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
