HELP - expanding every hyperlink automatically. how do I make it stop?

Word is autoformatting hyperlinks correctly, in that it
creates the hyperlink, but instead of a region of blue
text that is clickable, I see the expanded code upderneath
the hyperlnk, i.e. HYPERLINK: etc etc. It'd doing the same
thing to links to excel documents, etc. How do I make this
stop??

Press Alt + F9 to toggle off the view of field codes.
