Help for Office 2003 Service Pack 2 Installation Failures

If you've tried to install Service Pack 2 and the installation failed--I have
one possible solution you might want to try. Run Detect & Repair to fix a
missing GUID code that is causing the failure. To do this open any of your
Office programs (I used Word). On the top tool bar, click on Help and then
"Detect and Repair" from the drop down list. You'll need your original
installation CD. Let the program repair itself. Next, run Detect and Repair
for any other Office programs you have installed that weren't part of the
original suite you purchased. I have Professional, so I had to run Detect &
Repair for FrontPage as well. Once you've done this, I rebooted my computer.
I don't know if this is necessary, but it doesn't hurt. Then, I ran the
Office Update from inside Word. Again on the top tool bar, select Help and
then "Check for Updates". Once your computer has been scanned, you'll be
offered the Service Pack 2 Update. Select "Download and Install". Since the
Update is already downloaded it will jump straight to install. This time the
installation should be successful. Good luck.
