help function lost

Suddenly my help function in MS Word (97 or 2000) quit
working. I could see the list of help topics, but when I
clicked on them nothing happened. I tried "system restore"
which unfortunately created many problems with my
antivirus shield but didn't go back to a time when the
help function worked. I tried the "repair" option in Word
and went through a partial reinstallation, and now instead
of the help contents list, which I much prefer, I get the
Office Assistant and that limited list of choices, with no
way of getting rid of the Assistant except hiding it.

Thats really strange, that has just happened to me as well as the picture
appearing from no where. I'm just off to check my anti v
