I have an older version of PPT at work (2000). When I bring my presentation
home and look at the slides on the thumb drive, the notes are gone. I do have
a newer version (2003) at home. The slide presentation is fine but the notes
are gone. Is this a PPT issue or did something just go wrong with the slides?

You'll want to make sure you have all updates for PPT on both systems.

Also see NOTES text disappears

I believe the service packs should take care of the problem, but to be on
the safe side, also don't save while you're in notes page view.
