Help me to create an Armenian Spell Checker

H

Haik Hakopian

I'm a member of Arak-29 Foundation team in Armenia working on various
Armenian language programs
(www.arak29.am). Our team-leader is Tom Samuelian, a lawyer and linguist.

For some time, we have been working on Armenian orthography and
dictionaries. There is no spell-checker
for Eastern Armenian in traditional (Classical) orthography. For this
reason, we have prepared in hunspell
format (1) modified wordlist of over 60,000 base forms and (2) affix file
with all declined and conjugated
forms, (3) readme file. We wish to make this available under a GPL license
as an OXT for Open Office and
if possible for other word processors (e.g., Microsoft Office, if possible).

We have tested the .dic and .aff files using standalone hunspell under linux
and it works well and is more
accurate and comprehensive than the existing mixed armspell versions being
distributed on the Open Office
Site. We did not use the armspell .dic or .aff files because the contain a
mixture of Eastern and Western
forms as well as a mixture of reformed and traditional spelling. The
version we have prepared is tailored
to Eastern Armenian in traditional orthography, which is the standard
outside of Armenia and is an accepted
form of orthography in Armenia (although reformed is more commonly used).

We will be prepared to submit the 3 Files in the next week or so. Please
let us know how we can open an
Issue for this spellchecker.

I send this letter to OpenOffice but i haven't got any replies...

Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

Sincerely,

Haik Hakopian

Hi Haik Hakopian,

I have already released a Classical Orthography Armenian Spell checker for
Microsoft Office 2007 Word at the following site: http://www.hyspell.com
This spell checker has a lexicon-base of 156,000 Armenian semi-root words,
and more than 300 affix rules. It is already in the market and gaining steam
in Diaspora. The spell checker can understand both ARMSCII-8 and UNICODE
encoded Armenian text. The lexicon is very very clean and is based on S.
Malkhasianz and E. Aghayan multivolume dictionary books.
The product is available with two versions Standard ($50) and Professional
($80), and it is a Free Site License flagship for all Armenian Schools (i.e.
Armenian Schools Free Site License).

You may want to look at this new breakthrough.
I am also developing a Thesaurus for Office 2007 and 2010, which will be
released in the next version of the package, namely HySpell 1.1. This next
version will also have automatic hyphenation and Homophone checker, along
with 99% accuracy of spell checking in Classical Orthography (currentt
version 1.0's accuracy may between 90%-95%).

Thank your very much for consideration.
Sincerely,

Haro Mherian, PhD Mathematics/Software Architect
