Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel When I select "Excel Help" from the "Help Menu" the excel spreadsheet I'm working on grays out but nothing else happens. I have the same problem when I click on the Help "?" in the spreadsheet's menu bar. No way can I access Excel Help. Help!

You have not said what level of update you have installed. That's the first
place to start. Check in Excel>About Excel. It should show version 12.2.4.
If it doesn't, update it and restart the computer.

Cheers

Thanks, John. I am running 12.2.4, though that reminds me to add that when this problem is present I cannot run Software Update either; nothing happens when I try to launch it. I've had this series of problems several time over the past week, but I opened three spreadsheets today and everything seems to be working fine. Puzzling.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

Check that your network connection to the Internet is stable.

Both mechanisms rely on the Internet to work.
