help not available, then error 1605

On my wife's computer, if you start Excel it warns help is not
available, and asks for the Office 2000 CD to instal it.
So we put in this CD, but then it gives error 1605
ERROR_UNKNOWN_PRODUCT
We tried completely reinstalling Office 2000, but the same
error returns.
(get same error with Outlook, but not Word or PowerPoint)
Was ist los?
