Help on a Template

I am making a Contact Management Database based on customers and their car
service history.. Like when was the last oil change or full srvice etc...I
have the table and info but how do I link them into the acces template? Or
maybe create a better one? I want to have a query about a Licence plate# that
would answer the customer's name and the service history..

Reading your two posts for help, it sounds like you will be
better off starting from scratch for an Automotive Service
History database than using the Contact Management Template.
The template would be very usefull as a learning tool, but
if you are just getting started with Access it would be
quite a challenge trying to change it's purpose that much.

Without going into a whole design sketch for you, I would
suggest that you do think about your whole approach very
carefully at the beginning though. Your comment on wanting
to search by License# to find the details on their car
prompted me to suggest that you think through what you are
trying to do pretty carefully before you start building too
many tables.

Are you trying to capture the information on a given
customer and the many cars that they may own?

Are you trying to capture the history of a given car
throughout the many owners that it may have?

Both of the above would take different design approaches and
you may find that your true goal may even be different than
either of those. I don't know about your state, but here in
Oregon the license plate transfers with the car when it
changes owners yet in other states the license plate stays
with the owner.

Hi Gary, Thanks for your reply..

By what you are saying I guess I'll just have to do a customer base approach
that gives a service history on all the cars he owns. Would that be a good
start?
If I just indicate the customer profile as one table. How can I make a
service hisory report of each of their cars? Is that what you cal the
subsheet? Or do I have to make another table for that?

So much to learn stillll....Thanks a lot for the help
