Help on posting questions

M

Mark-Eli

I am new to this group and to this environment in general. I have been
struggling with Proj 2003 Pro with a certain problem for quite a while. I
posted a question on 10/17 about leveling problems. I have not gotten any
responses and I am curious why. Did I provide too much info? Was it
confusing? Was the formatting of the info bad? Please give me some feedback
so I can use this resource more effectively. Thanks.

There are a few points about using the newsgroups which may help you out.

1) People who are answering questions here are doing it voluntarily. So
there should be no expectation that you will get an answer.

2) Leveling is a complicated subject. Answering a complex leveling question
can sometimes take a lot of time.

3) Sometimes people just don't know the answer.

With those things in mind, breaking up the question into smaller pieces is
usually a good strategy. Short well defined questions get answered more
quickly than long scenarios.

I didn't look at your original question as I rarely use leveling and so I
don't have much business answering questions about it. I'd suggest that
since it has been a few days you can probably repost your question and see
if you get better luck this time.

Hi,

I've gone through your post now.
I generally adore questions on leveling - I use it a lot and I even may
consider myself a fan.
The problem here seems to be that leveling is only the way in which a
corruption seems to show itself, and searching for a corruption is not that
rewarding.
But le's be positive and try something. For starters, if the files don't
contain info that is too confidentiuol, zip the whole (not the master,
master files are just shells) and send it to
jandemesATprom-ade.be
Sorry but there may be so many parms involved that I won't just start the
blind guesswork.
I'll try to diagnose when I'll see the patient :)

Greetings,

Jan and Jack,

Thanks for the input.
Jan - I will see how big of file it will be if I zip it. The address you
listed, is that an email or somewhere in this user group? Thank you for your
offer of help.

I did look at this but haven't had much time this week unfortunately. I
did find it hard to plough through the posting if you don't mind me
saying so.

You state mid-way through your posting that your levelling process takes
from 4-5 hours to complete but I am unclear as to whether or not you are
posing that as a problem to solve (it doesn't seem entirely unreasonable
given the number of projects in the master).

I personally found it hard to follow the points labelled i, ii, ... etc.
What exactly did you improve by creating a new resource pool? Was it
the time taken to level?

After that you introduced a new problem relating corruption and the
inability to save files and the true nature of that problem is not
particularly clear. Does it only occur after this levelling operation
or is it a more general problem? Similarly, does the saving problem
only occur after you have tried levelling?

I would suggest that you try to give as succinct and concise a
description of your problem as possible in order to reduce the work that
readers have to do in understanding it. This will increase your chances
of a response.

Hi,

It's e-mail but to avoid spam address hunters I replace @ by AT.
You have to do the reverse.
