HELP! Page Scroll Problems. Excel is acting goofy.

Kevin

I have been using Excel for years on both a PC and a Mac and have
never experienced the problems I am seeing today.

I am using Excel 2008 and just yesterday updated to the latest
version.

I am having problems when I switch between "Normal" view and "Page
Layout" view. When I double click on a cell in "Normal" view the
page immediately leaps to the top. It seems that I can enter
information into the cell but I cannot see the information being
entered (unless the cell is at the top of the page). I am also having
problems move the cursor to cells that are below the to of the page.
I push the down arrow and the page doesn't move from the top. The
Formula Bar is showing that I am moving down the page A100, A101,
A1012, etc but the page itself doesn't move.

This behavior is extremely annoying to say the least. Is anyone else
seeing this behavior? Could it be related to the latest software
update?

Please help.

Hi Kevin -

Your first issue is nothing new, it's just that it wasn't as "discoverable"
in earlier versions :) Notice that this only happens when these 2
conditions are met:

(a) the cell you're double-clicking is already selected, and
(b) your pointer looks like a Hand (you're on the top edge of the cell)
rather than appearing as a bold white Cross.

It's a designed-in feature for rapidly returning to the top of the column,
so it's working exactly as it should. The reasons it is more easily hit in
2008 are that the resolution of the systems is probably higher and that the
"hot zone" has been redefined. Double-click in the *middle* of a selected
cell or don't select if first & you should be able to avoid he behavior.

As to the second point: Have you checked the Window menu to make sure Freeze
Panes isn't turned on? That's the most likely explanation.
