HELP PLEASE

I have a problem with formulas in Excel XP: they show in formula bar AND in cells (value of formula doesn't show in the cell). I guess it treats formula as text. Tried with different formatting (general, number), hiding formula and protecting sheet, CTRL + `(the only difference I can see is changed width of column when press CTRL+`), but nothing worked. Had a same problem on a PC with office 2003 that I was using only for a short period of time and never figured out what the problem was. My PC started doing this yesterday, and I'm way behind on my work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

Your cells are probably formatted as text.

Format the cells as general, then reenter the formulas.

Hi,

If not all cells on the sheet are affected, select the problem cells and
Edit>Replace "=" with "=" (without the quotes). Then format to suit.

If all cells on the sheet are affected, try Tools>Options>View and uncheck
Formulas.

You were almost there when you said that you:
<<"press CTRL+`">>

The keyboard shortcut to format a cell as "General" is:
<Ctrl> <Shift> <~>
BUT ... then you must "Edit" the cell,
either by re-entering the formula, OR
clicking in the formula bar and then <Enter>, OR
simply hitting <F2> then <Enter>.

So, the easiest, IMHO is,
<Ctrl> <Shift> <~>, then <F2> <Enter>
