HELP!!!! Printing only half of document.

I

Inov8desin

I have a booklet I have created in Publisher 2007. It is sized to be 1/2 of
an 8.5" x 11" (portrait)page so I can get 2 booklets from one set of paper.
The total booklet is 32 pages (8 sheets of double sided paper).

When I print the document 2 sided (portrait), only half of the pages print.
If I print single sided all pages print. If I print double sided landscape
all pages print, however the printing is in the center of the paper and
requires substantial trimming (e.g. wasted paper).

I have modified page size, margins, etc. and the same issues seem to be
occuring.

Where are you setting the double-sided options? In your printer driver
or in Publisher?

Ed, how do you setup a booklet to print two per sheet? I have tried every way I
know how. I created a 32 page booklet, I can only get it to print pages 1
through 8 and 25 through 32. If I then try to print 9 through 24, pages 13, 14,
15, 16, 17 and 18 fail to print. If I select to print 13-18, pages 15 and 16
fail. No matter what printer, I've tried them all, Snagit, Acrobat, a couple of
HP's, with and without a duplex unit. I've saved it in Publisher 2003 (which
prints correctly) but when opened in 2007 it is a mess.

Now if I don't setup two per sheet, everything prints fine. I can create a
custom page, cut the stock first, it works okay too.

Maybe its just me, or maybe I have one of the flawed versions of Publisher.

If you want I can send you this 32 page file. It is nothing more than numbered
pages.

A p.s.
If I manually insert page numbers in the print preview
1,30,5,26,9,22,13,18,15,20,11,24,7,28,3,32
I still get a partial print. Publisher is only printing half the publication.
Maybe you or JoAnn can explain this. I am having very senior moments with this.

Ed,

I am setting up the duplex in publisher, when I select "print". I have
tried going through the print menu and setting the print driver. I get the
same results.

This is how I finally got a publication similar to yours to print properly.

After the initial print, I was left with 9-24 not printing. I unchecked from the
View menu 2-page spread, I deleted the front eight pages and the back eight
pages. (Publisher will let you delete many pages at once, hold shift and select
the page sort tabs). Again I printed. I then deleted the front 4 pages and the
back 4 pages. And I printed again.

I saved each of these sections.

The last four pages I had to check two-sided and typed pages, 1,2,3,4.

If you cut your stock first and then print, all is correct. Not all printers
will duplex custom small stock.

p.s.
If you have page numbering, insert a section, start with page 9 in print 2 and
so on.

Mary, thank you for the "work around".

This sounds ok for one or two off, however the booklet I am producing will
be published in the hundreds of copies. I don't believe it would be very
cost effective for the printer to perform all those steps.

The goal I had in purchasing publisher was to reduce printing costs, by
allowing the printer to put twoon a single sheet, which if properly done
would reduce cutting, printing, and thus total expense.

Sounds like I might need to find a copy of Publisher 2003 to do this work.
Unless someone else has a way to get it to work is intended in the current
release of Publisher.

I've reported this bug to the powers to be. I reported it before. I have one bug
report dated 75 weeks ago.

I opened the 32 page publication in Publisher 2003 and it printed perfectly.

some additional information:

When I use the "post processing" software, I have to print from publisher
"landscape" and "single-sided" for the post processor to format the final
output "2up" and print correctly.

maybe the better question is to ask "How do I print 2 instances of the same
document on a page in Publisher?"
