HELP!! Setting up Proj. 2002 Server and Proj. 2002 Pro

M

Mike Barry

I work for a small IT company that works for a lot of small
businesses around here, and on our last server install we were asked
to set up MS Project Server with 5 users.

The network is 2 MS 2003 Servers, one being a fileserver and
the other the domain controller. There are about 5 or 6 clients so
far on the network.

In our test lab, we're having a lot of trouble just getting
Project 2002 Server installed. When we select Cusom Install,
it keeps looking for SQL Server, as well as a SQL database.
I think I've read somewhere that Project Professional 2002 works
best with the Custom Install, and I believe it even states that during
the install process for 2002 Server.

How do we go about setting up Project 2002 Server in a Windows
2003 Server domain? Also, what do we need to do to get the client
Project 2002 Professional to work with Project 2002 Server?

I'd really appreciate any help you could give me with this.
We simply haven't used or have had to set up this software before, and
it's a bit of a puzzle at this point.

Thanks!

Mike

Mike:

If you're not going to use SQL, then you won't be able to use the custom
option. Also, you shouldn't know that STS was not happy installing on a 2002
Domain Controller, so you should be targeting the file server. I haven't
tried it on a 2003 domain controller, so you're on your own if you want to
attempt it. The main variance in the installation routine on 2003 is that
you should not install STS on the default web site.
