help to sort names

this is silly but I cannot seem to alphabetize a list I have in excel... when I try I get an error message that says the cells need to be the same size... and they ARE the same but I keep getting the error message...

help??

Sounds like you've got some cells merged.

For this reason, and manyothers, merged cells are Satan's spawn, and
friends never let friends merge cells.

Unmerge the cells, or choose only unmerged cells to sort.
