Help typing an index?

Ordinarily Word inserts these by default. In Insert | Reference | Index and
Tables: Index, note that if you check the box for "Right align page number,"
a dot tab leader is selected automatically.

How do I get the dots or periods from end of text to page number?

Do you know that Word has a whole feature dedicated to producing automatic
indexes, including the dots? It's on the Insert menu, within the References
submenu. Read the help topic about "How to create an index".

If, after that, you still want to type the index and risk typographical
errors, then a way to get dots is to select the index paragraphs, go into
the Format > Tabs dialog, and choose the dot leader for the right-aligned
tab stop at the right margin. The tab character between the end of the text
and the page numbers will show that leader. A better choice is to define a
style for index entries, and to include that tab stop and its leader as part
of the style.

I posted this at 11:44 CDT this morning; I'm wondering what became of it:

I can see that post now, at home; but I don't recall seeing it around
4:30 this afternoon when I was at work. I also saw a number of headers
for posts that gave me the "removed from server" message in OE, but
Agent doesn't have any trouble retrieving them. Gremlins, definitely
gremlins.

Yes, there definitely appear to be problems with at least one of the
servers. Removed messages are being reported at least in the Access and FP
NGs, and I saw some in these (Word) NGs yesterday. Interestingly, there were
other messages posted around the same time as my lost ones (all posted
between 11:32 and 12:05 CDT), but they may have been posted through the
Communities or just have happened to hit a different server.
