Help with COUNT

Hi all,

Need a liitle push in the right direction with COUNT. In
column A, I paste in a list of file names, any where
between 15 and 150 rows, depends on the day- very dynamic
count . In cell D2 I have the words "Total number of
files" and in cell E2 I need the count of rows in column
A. My guess was something like =COUNT (A1:A ). BUT this
doesn't work..

=COUNT(INDIRECT("A1:A"&ROW()-1))
