Help with java applet in PPT 2002

I have a killer java applet that I would like to use in
my presentation. It is the third slide of a timed
presentation with smooth transitions from slide to slide.
I am using a lake applet on a beautiful picture. (picture
is reflected in a rippling lake.) I am using Shyam
Pillai's web page plug-in to link the web page.

Problem: when it comes time to load this slide, it takes
a second or two to load. All my slide backgrounds are
black. When this one loads I get several flashes of
white. I have turned on the auto-shape function to help
hide the flashes, it helps, but not alot. I also turned
the autoshape black so the slide would not be such a
shock when it starts to load. The flashes detract from
the presentation, and the long load time throws off the
continuity and timings.

I tried to run the web page in explorer minimized to the
tray and it makes matters worse. I checked and found it
takes 97% of the CPU usage to run this applet.
Win XP Pro, Dell Inspiron 8100, 1Gig Intel CPU, NVidia
GeForce2Go video card w/32M ram, PPT 2002

Questions:
1. Am I asking for something that is unrealistic?
2. Can a java script be run as a stand-alone application
and linked? If so, how?
3. What about another format; animated gif. AVI, Mpeg? If
so, how do I convert the file?
4. What about a video capture of the java script running
and insert as an Mpeg etc. How could this be done?

I really need a definitive answer on this issue. I do
not want to waste any more time on this one slide if I am
asking the impossible, but the slide is such a neat
addition to my presentaion that it is worth working for.
All your help is greatly appreciated!!!
