Help with linking pull downs from a text column to the initial fie

I would like to assign "an owner" to a task that is a group activity. I have
added a new text column which I named Owner. In a perfect world, this column
could be linked to the Resources Initial field to control the contents of the
text field.

Is there a way to do this in project 2003 (non server?)

Dave,

With standard, you can create the task under a summary, assign as many
resources to the detail task and the owner to the summary task, when
the owner updates the summary percent complete, it carries down to the
resources. Not sure this is what you want, nor is it good CPM practice.
