HELP with styles!

B

Birdghirl

I've recently created new styles in my firm's documents. I modified
the heading styles to want I wanted and it all worked perfectly. I
then decided to create different styles for schedules so that the
numbered clauses in schedules would not appear in my TOC. I created
schedule1, schedule2, schedule3 and 4, and formatted them the same as
my heading styles. Very occasionally one of these schedule styles has
to have bold text. Rather than create a style for this I just apply
the bold to the heading directly. This works perfectly in schedule 1
and 2 but when I apply bold to schedule 3 and 4 the number becomes bold
also. The main problem is that when I try to modify this (styles,
modify numbering, click on font and click regular) this removes my
outline number from schedule 1! I'm tying myself in knots with
this - Does this mean I have somehow broken the link between schedule 1
and 3 when I try to modify schedule3?? Any help is much appreciated.

Generally speaking, to remove font formatting from auto numbering, select
just the paragraph mark and remove the formatting from it (Ctrl+Spacebar).

Thansk Suzanne. I don't think I've explained this very crearly (my
message does seem to be verging on the rambling side). My problem is
when I try to modify my schedule3 style in any way, as soon as I hit ok
the numbering is removed from my schedule 1. It seems to me like when
I go into modify schedule 3, I'm going into the wrong number template
thingy - if so how can I check and fix it so that all numbering in the
schedules list is from the same template?

Did you set your styles up following the methods prescribed at
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html?

Are you sure that numbering is correctly set up for your schedule
series of styles? Open the Bullets and Numbering dialog box via the
style properties of the schedule 1 paragraph style and verify the
settings (for all levels), as described at
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html. Then
select the whole document and press Ctrl+Q, to remove paragraph
settings (including numbering) not in style.

Yes I did Charles. I set up my heading styles as described here then
set up identical schedule styles called schedule1, schedule2 etc.
Somthing must have gone wrong but I can't figure out what.
