Here is the problem description: I work at a High School where the computers
have Windows XP installed; All Office 2003 Updates are installed. All
Windows Updates are installed except for 908531 which is known to cause
problems with Office. It should be known that update 908531 was installed
previously and removed by using the "Add\Remove" programs method when Office
started causing locking up problems while trying to save a file.
This is a random problem which has been happening since April 2006. When
the Microsoft Word or Excel file is saved onto the mapped network drive; the
name changes to ~.tmp even though the user has tried to save the file as .doc
or .xls.
It should be noted that the file is not corrupted, the user then has to
change the file from .tmp to .doc in order to edit that file again.
Does anyone have an idea as to what may be the cause of this problem? My
best guess is that removing the 908531 update by using the "Add\Remove"
programs method did fully fix the Office 2003 problem?
Also, the Virus Scanning software we use is not the problem. I had the
software uninstalled and the Office File Saving problem still exists.
Any ideas or suggestions...please help!
Thanks,
Keith
