Helper Formula To Identify 1st Instance of a Value

I have a series of data like this.

Would like to add a helper column that will flag the 1st instance of a given
value.

=COUNTIF($A$1:A1,A1)=1

adapt to your own data and copy down in an adjacent cell will return TRUE
for 1st occurrence

Try this:
If your list begins in Cell A2
B2: =IF(COUNTIF($A$2:A2,A2)=1,"First","")
copy that formula down as far as you need.
