I'm afraid you'll need to back up & clarify exactly what the problem is :)

Are *you* having a problem opening the document or is it just the recipients
you're sending it to?

If you are having the problem are you trying to open it with Word 2008 or
with a Windows version? If a Windows version, which one?

What do you mean by "having a hard time"? Can it be opened or not? What
exactly happens when attempting to open the document in each different
variety of Word being used?

How are you 'sending' it? Email attachment? Are you saving the file to
include the appropriate filename extension (name.doc, name.docx)?

Have you tried zipping the file & sending the zipped copy?

We really need a much more explicit description of the situation in order to
offer any meaningful suggestions. Accurate details are important.

Any Word document may not display as intended when opened on another system
(Mac or PC) for a variety of reasons, including fonts used & differences in
what printer driver is installed, not to mention the manner in which the
document was constructed & the nature of its content. If the recipient does
not need to edit/revise the file send a PDF rather than a Word document.
