Hidden data unhides on opening sreadsheet

I am assisting a customer who is using Excel 2000 on a
windows 2000 system. She says she has a spreadsheet with
hidden data and when she opens the spreadsheet all the
data automatically unhides. She says it is all hidden at
first and then it unhides itself. She hid the data again
and saved, opened again and all the data unhides. Can
anyone think of what would cause this behavior?
TIA

Hi

It maybe that your customer has a "Custom View" setup. A
preset custom view can hide columns or rows. When she
opens the s/sheet this view is hiding/unhiding columns.

Read the help on Views to get a clear understanding.

OK I checked the views, removed any custom views that were
listed and this is still happening. Is there a registry
setting which may be holding this atribute?

Any chance that there's a "helpful" macro sticking its nose in?

Maybe starting excel in safe mode (which will stop macros and other stuff) will
let her eliminate this possibility:

Close excel
Windows start button|Run
excel /safe

File|open the workbook and see what happens.

Just had her open the sheet with macros disabled and all
hidden data is revealed after opening so it probably is
not a macro. Any other helpful suggestions?

Only one more wild one!

Maybe it's not a macro that's running when she opens the workbook. Maybe it's
running when she closes/saves the workbook.

Can you have her open the workbook (excel in safe mode again to disable macros).
Hide some data
And save it.

Close that workbook and reopen it.

(I wouldn't bet much on this working either!)

And what does "she's hiding data mean"? I assumed it was hiding rows or
columns, but maybe it means something else that'll spark someone else.
