hidden database window

Bob Brannon

Hello,

I am using Office 2000 SP3 on XP Home with all the updates.

I have a database which every time I open it I have to refresh the view in
order to see what is in the database window (of course it always opens to
the Table window). If I don't, I cannot see the listing of tables. This is
the only database that does this, but it does it everytime I open it.

Can anyone suggest how to fix this?

By chance, is it just scolled to one side, are there any scrollbars in the
database window? If not, if you import the objects from this database into a
new, blank one does the problem go away?

Hello Wayne,

There are no scroll bars. If I import all the objects the problem recurs.
I just tried that.

In Tools|Startup, do you have the window set to not load at startup? Do you
have any macros (i.e. autoexec macro) or forms opening at startup?

In Tools/Startup the database window is set to display. I have an Autoexec
macro that maximizes the database, but no forms opening at startup. This is
in all my databases, but this is the only one with the problem.

I would try disabling the autoexec macro as a test. If you hold down the
shift key as the database opens, it should disable the macro. If that
doesn't do it, temporarily rename the macro.

Well, that did stop the contents of the window from being hidden, but why
would they be hidden in this database and not other databases with the same
macro?

And, how do I fix it so the window contents are viewable without refreshing?

In that case, I'm wondering if the macro is corrupted. Try importing
everything except the macro into a new database then recreate the macro from
scratch in the new database to see if the problem goes away.

Well that worked as long as I left the new database window on Macros. When
I switched to Tables and closed, then the next time I opened the new
database, the window went blank again.

PMFJI -

Is this perhaps one of those screen repainting bugs in Windows XP with XP
Themes? I have this problem in my databases when using that OS and themes.
No fix for it at this time except to go to Classics Theme.

The only thing in the macro is the command "Maximize". The macro is named
"Autoexec".

What's in the macro?

B

Bob Brannon

This problem only occurs in one database, even though all my databases have
the same AutoExec macro.

I just discovered that maximizing the database window with the maximize
button in the upper left also causes it to go blank.

Do you have the latest video driver installed for your video card? If using
XP, have you tried the "Classic" theme as mentioned by Ken Snell?

K

Ken Snell

This is a common result when the Windows XP theme bug is happening. Note
that it doesn't happen on all PCs, not on all databases, and not all the
time.

B

Bob Brannon

So it's either classic theme or live with it? If that is the case then just
hitting F5 to refresh will be much easier. That is what I already do
anyway.

I do have the latest driver but don't want to go to the classic theme. This
is only a problem with one database my 20 others are fine. Is there no
other option?
