"hidden" email message appears to be "blocking" outbox

I am unable to send email, though receiving is OK;if I try and send an email, it signals sending 1 of 2 messages..and does not send any! .....when I delete my one message, no other is evident. Is there some way I have a hidden mesage that is blocking..and most importantly, how can I free it???..thanx
